In recent years there has been enormous progress in the field of computer vision as well as in the closely related areas of image processing and computational photography. Both the quality of the algorithms and the capabilities of the hardware have been improved significantly. This seminar deals with some of the most interesting works that have been published in recent years at important international conferences and leading scientific journals.

  • Photo Segmentation and Manipulation
  • Image and Video Denoising
  • Binocular and Multiview Stereo

Organisatorische Hinweise:

Prerequisites

Prior knowledge in the field of computer vision or correspondence problems is mandatory.
This also holds for students from MSc InfoTech and MSc Computer Science.
Literature and talks are in English. The slides should be in English, too.

Introductory Meeting

The introductory meeting will took place Monday, Februray 1, 2016 at 3:45 pm in Seminar Room 0.463 (computer science building). In this meeting, topics were assigned to the participants. The slides of this meeting (information on the topics, the talk and the write-up) are available here.

First Regular Meeting

A first talk on tips and tricks is planned for Tuesday, April 12, 2016.
The first talk of the seminar will be given three weeks later, on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 3:45 pm in Seminar Room 0.363 (computer science building).

Talk and Write-Up

For the write-up a LaTeX-Template is available. Please note that the use of this template is obligatory. Documents in MS Word or OpenOffice will not be accepted! The length of the write-up should be approx. 6-8 pages. The deadline for the submission of the write-up three weeks after the end of the lecture period.

In contrast to the write-up, you can use your own template when designing your slides. For instance, you can use the following PowerPoint or Latex Beamer templates. For each talk a time slot of 30 minutes is allocated. Afterwards, there will be a 15 minute discussion on the topic in general and the talk in particular. By actively participating in this discussion you can improve your final grade up to 0.3 grades.

Your final slides have to be presented to your seminar supervisor not later than one week before the talk is given (more details here). It is your responsibility to schedule an appointment with your seminar supervisor in time. Of course, you can (and should) contact your supervisor in case your have questions regarding the paper, the talk, or the write up.

News

- The deadline for submitting the write-up has been prolonged by three days. New deadline is Monday 08.08.2016 at 23:59. If you have already submitted your write-up you can still send us an updated version until then.

- The deadline for deregistration from the seminar is 01.04.2016. Please note that you have to deregister in person at the computer science examination secretary (Mrs. Ritzmann).

- During the seminar, you can find the latest news here (cancellation of talks, rescheduling of talks, etc.).
