Beschreibung:

The recorded, measured, and simulated amounts of data is growing due to the progress in hardware and software technologies. Such data typically comes from various heterogeneous sources demanding for an efficient data storage and processing. From the wealth of data, we can extract and derive relations, patterns, insights, and knowledge. This phenomenon can be found in nearly every field in our everyday life, such as marketing research (online advertisement), the finance sector, medicine, astronomy, and scientific simulations, but also telecommunication, and the complete area of social networking. There are various challenges and techniques for data visualization with the goal to interact with the data and to explore it in a meaningful and efficient way. To reach this goal, analysts make typically use of high-performance architectures like GPUs, large clusters, and even supercomputers. We will discuss the state of the art in high-performance visualization. To this end, we will review current publications on the topic. All texts will preferably be written in English. Working language for the seminar is English if requested by the participants, or German otherwise.
