Since April 2018, Dr. Bastian Pfleging is a deputy professor for the chair of Human-Computer Interaction at the Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems of the University of Stuttgart. Prior, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the chair for Human-Machine Interaction at LMU Munich. His general research interests are multimodal and natural user interfaces. In particular, he explores novel human-computer interaction techniques in the automotive context. In this domain, he investigates noval interaction techniques and concepts to interact with the car. At the moment, he investigates novel concepts for non-driving-related activities and tasks that drivers will be able to conduct during assisted, highly, and fully automated driving.

Before his current appointment and hist PostDoc time at LMU Munich, Bastian Pfleging was a researcher at the Human-Computer Interaction group of Albrecht Schmidt at the Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems (VIS) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He defended his PhD thesis in 2016. He received his MSc in Computer Science (Diploma) from TU Dortmund, Germany. From 2009 to 2011 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. From 2010 to 2011 he visited the BMW Technology Office in Palo Alto, California He is a member of ACM and the German Informatics Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik).

Bastian Pfleging organized and organizes a multitude of conferences and tutorials at different scientific venues, including CHI, MobileHCI, AutomotiveUI, Mensch und Computer. He also supports many conference activities. For instances, he is an associate chair for CHI '19. In 2017 he is Program Chair for AutomotiveUI '17 and Associate Chair for Late-Breaking Work at CHI '17. Before that, he was Work-in-Progress & Interactive Demo Co-Chair at AutomotiveUI '16 and AutomotiveUI '15, Associate Chair for Late-Breaking Work at CHI '16 and Interactive Demo Co-Chair at Mensch und Computer 2015. He is also member in program committees of HCI-related scientific conferences and serves as a reviewer for various conferences, journals, and magazines.
