SUMMARY:Veranstaltung: Vortrag | Rüdiger Westermann, Technische Universität München
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nSprecher\n\nRüdiger Westermann\nTechnische Universität München\n\n\n\n\nTitel\n\n\nScalable Data Visualization\n\n\n\n \n\nTalk Abstract:\nIn this talk I will discuss recent developments in the area of large data visualization at\nthe Chair for Computer Graphics and Visualization at TUM. I will present the results of our\nresearch in a variety of applications ranging from computational fluid dynamics to astrophysics and\ngeographical information systems. The focus of my talk will be on scalability issues with respect\nto both the increasing amount of data and the increasing resolution of the display devices. I will\ndiscuss recent approaches for the visualization of large particle data and data compression, I will\ndemonstrate the use of parallel graphics hardware to achieve scalability, and I will shed light on\naccuracy issues in the visualization process.\nSpeaker's Bio:\nRüdiger Westermann, is a Professor for Computer Science at the Technische Universität\nMünchen. He is head of the Chair for Computer Graphics and Visualization. His research\ninterests include scientific visualization, physics-based simulation, and real-time computer\ngraphics. He received his Diploma in Computer Science from the Technische Universität Darmstadt in\n1991 and his Doctoral degree "with highest honours" from the University of Dortmund in 1996. From\n1992 to 1997 he was a member of the research staff at the German National Institute for Mathematics\nand Computer Science in St. Augustin, Bonn, where he worked together with Wolfgang Krüger on\nparallel graphics algorithms. In 1998, he joined the Computer Graphics Group at the University of\nErlangen-Nuremberg as a Research Scientist. Before he became an Assistant Professor in the\nVisualization Group at the University of Stuttgart in 1999 he was a Research Assistant in the\nMulitres Group at Caltech and a Visiting Professor with the Scientific Computing Laboratory at the\nUniversity of Utah. In 2001 he was appointed by the RWTH-Aachen as an Associate Professor for\nScientific Visualization in the Department of Computer Science. Since 2003, Rüdiger Westermann is\nChair of the Computer Graphics and Visualization group. In 2012, he was honored an ERC\nadvanced grant worth 2.3 million Euros for research in the area of \n uncertainty visualization.\nSee \nhttp://wwwcg.in.tum.de/ for more details.\n\n\n\n
