So far an often neglected aspect in visual computing research is quantification. Only quantified methods can be applied effectively. Our research community will close this gap.

The SFB-TRR 161 is a collaborative, interdisciplinary research project in which currently 19 project teams from the University of Stuttgart, the University of Konstanz, Ulm University as well as LMU Munich work together on improving the quality of visual computing methods. More than 50 experts from the areas of computer science, visualization, visual analytics, computer graphics, and human-computer interaction are part of the research community.
In recent years, visual computing has managed to establish its own faculty where computer scientists, engineers, and psychologists develop efficient methods, techniques, and applications. An often neglected aspect in visual computing research is quantification. Only by using quantification can the methods be applied effectively. Scientists of the SFB-TRR 161 work on determination and measurability of quality and applicability of available methods to adapt them to the requirements of different applications and users.
