- ECCV Area Chair Award: Andrés Bruhn received an Outstanding Area Chair Award for his work as area chair at the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2024).
- New Ph.D. Student: Noah Berenguel-Senn has joined our research group as a Ph.D. student as part of the SfB-TRR 161 after he finished his M.Sc. in Informatik at the University of Stuttgart.
- IJCV Paper: Our paper "MS-RAFT+: High Resolution Multi-Scale RAFT" that describes our optical flow approach that won the ECCV 2022 Robust Vision Challenge has been published at IJCV.
- WACV Papers: Our three papers "Detection Defenses: An Empty Promise against Adversarial Patch Attacks on Optical Flow", "Stereo Conversion with Disparity-Aware Warping, Compositing and Inpainting" and "CCMR: High Resolution Optical Flow Estimation via Coarse-to-Fine Context-Guided Motion Reasoning" have been accepted at this year's IEEE/CVF Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision (WACV 2024, January 4-8, Waikoloa, Hawaii, US).
- ECCV Area Chair: Andrés Bruhn will serve as Area Chair for the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2024, September 29 - October 4, Milan, Italy).
- ICCV Paper: Our paper "Distracting Downpour: Adversarial Weather Attacks for Motion Estimation" introduces a framework for generating realistic weather attacks on optical flow and has been accepted at this year's IEEE/CVF International Conference on Compuer Vision (ICCV 2023, October 2-6, Paris, France).
- ICVSS Poster Award: Jenny Schmalfuss was awarded a presentation award for her poster at the International Computer Vision Summer School (ICVSS 2023, July 10-14, Sicily, Italy)
- CVPR Paper: Our paper "Spring: A High-Resolution High-Detail Data Set and Benchmark for Scene Flow, Optical Flow and Stereo" has been accepted at this year's IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR 2023, June 18-22, Vancouver, Canada). ECCV AROW Best Paper Award: We won a Best Paper Award for our paper "Attacking Motion Estimation with Adversarial Snow" at the ECCV 2022 Workshop on Adversarial Robustness in the Real World (AROW).

ECCV Robust Vision Challenge Award: Our algorithm on high-resolution multi-scale recurrent optical flow estimation (MS-RAFT+) that extends our MS-RAFT approach presented at this year's IEEE International Conference in Computer Vision (ICIP) won the ECCV 2022 Robust Vision Challenge in the category "Optical Flow".

New Group Name: Recently, our group was renamed from "Intelligent Systems" to "Computer Vision" since this group name better reflects its research focus.

New Ph.D. Student: Jenny Schmalfuß has joined our research group as a Ph.D. student after finishing her M.Sc. in Simulation Technology at the University of Stuttgart.

Ph.D. Defence: On March 16, 2020, Michael Stoll has defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Data Challenges in Variational Optical Flow". Prof. Luis Álvarez (University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) was external committee member.
- New Ph.D. Student: Azin Jahedi has joined our research group as a Ph.D. student after finishing her M.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Stuttgart.

Publication Award: On January 31, 2020, Daniel Maurer, Yong Chul Ju, Michael Breuß and Andrés Bruhn received a publication award from the University of Stuttgart at the Research Day 2020 for their IJCV paper on combining shape from shading and stereo: "Combining shape from shading and stereo: a joint variational method for estimating depth, illumination and albedo".

Ph.D. Defence: On October 24, 2019, Daniel Maurer has defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Adaptive Algorithms for 3D Reconstruction and Motion Estimation". Prof. Thomas Brox (University of Freiburg, Germany) was external committee member.

GCPR General Chair: Andrés Bruhn served as General Chair for this year's German Conference on Pattern Recognition (GCPR 2018, October 10-12, Stuttgart, Germany). This event was jointly organized with the International Symposium on Vision, Modeling and Visualization (VMV).

ECCV Paper: We have one paper on "Structure-from-Motion aware PatchMatch for Adaptive Optical Flow Estimation" accepted at this year's European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2018, 8-14, Munich, Germany).

BMVC Papers: We have two papers accepted at the British Machine Vision Conference (BMVC 2018, September 3-6, Newcastle upon Tyne): one on online learning approaches for motion estimation "ProFlow: Learning to Predict Optical Flow" and one on multi-frame pipeline approaches "Directional Priors for Multi-Frame Optical Flow Estimation". CVPR Robust Vision Challenge Runner-Up Award: Our algorithm for online learning to predict the optical flow (ProFlow) that will be presented at this year's British Machine Vision Conference (BMVC) has been awarded the Runner-Up Award for achieving the second place in the CVPR 2018 Robust Vision Challenge in the category "Optical Flow" (performance across all major benchmarks with the same parameter set).

EXPRESSIVE Best Paper Award: On July 31, 2017, Kuno Kurzhals, Michael Stoll, Andrés Bruhn and Daniel Weiskopf have received a Best Paper Award at the Symposium on Computational Aesthetics, Sketch-Based Interfaces and Modeling, and Non-Photorealistic Animation and Rendering (EXPRESSIVE, co-located with SIGGRAPH) for their paper "FlowBrush: Optical Flow Art".

- Dagstuhl Seminar: Andrés Bruhn has organised a Dagstuhl seminar on Vision for Autonomous Vehicles and Probes (November 8-13, 2015). Co-organizers were Aleš Leonardis (University of Birmingham), Tomas Pajdla (CTU Prague) and Atsushi Imiya (Chiba University).

Keynote Lecture: Andrés Bruhn gave a keynote lecture at the 20th Symposium on Signal Processing, Image Processing and Computer Vision (STSIVA 2015, September 2-4, Bogotá, Colombia).

Koenderink Prize: At the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2014), in Zurich, Switzerland, Andrés Bruhn was awarded the Koenderink Prize for Fundamental Contributions in Computer Vision together with Thomas Brox, Nils Papenberg, and Joachim Weickert. It was given for their ECCV 2004 paper "High accuracy optical flow estimation based on a theory for warping".

ACCV Paper: Our paper on the robust integration of feature matches into variational optical flow methods has been accepted as oral presentation at this year's Asian Conference on Computer Vision (ACCV 2012, November 5 - 9, Daejeon, South Korea).

GCPR Optical Flow Challenge: At the forthcoming German Conference on Pattern Recognition in Saarbrücken (GCPR 2013, formerly DAGM) Andrés Bruhn is organising an Optical Flow Challenge together with Uwe Franke (Daimler), Andreas Geiger (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), and Daniel Kondermann (University of Heidelberg). The goal is to foster research on optical flow approaches for challenging real-world sequences.

DAGM-OAGM Paper Award: On August 31, 2012, Christopher Schroers, Henning Zimmer, Levi Valgaerts, Andrés Bruhn, Oliver Demetz, and Joachim Weickert have received a Paper Award at the German-Austrian Pattern Recognition Conference (DAGM-OAGM 2012, August 29-31, Graz, Austria) for their paper "Anistropic Range Image Integration".
