Dr. Bastian Pfleging ist seit April 2018 Professurvertreter für die W3-Professur für Mensch-Computer-Interaktion am Institut für Visualisierung und interaktive Systeme an der Universität Stuttgart. Zuvor war Herr Pfleging seit Juli 2015 PostDoc am Lehrstuhl für Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich der Mensch-Computer-Interaktion mit speziellem Fokus auf multimodaler Interaktion und natürlichen Benutzungsschnittstellen. Insbesondere befasst Herr Pfleging sich dabei mit neuen Benutzungsschnittstellen für Fahrzeuge. In diesem Bereich erforscht und publiziert er über neuartige Interaktionstechniken und -stile zur Bedienung verschiedenster Fahrzeugsysteme. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf der Erforschung neuer Bedienkonzepte für Tätigkeiten, die während des assistierten, hoch- und vollautomatisierten Fahrens vom Fahrer durchgefüht werden können.

Vor seiner Tätigkeit als Professurvertreter an der Universität Stuttgart und als PostDoc an der LMU war Bastian Pfleging wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Visualisierung und Interaktive Systeme der Universität Stuttgart in der Gruppe von Albrecht Schmidt, wo er sich im Rahmen seiner Promotion mit der Unterstützung von Nebentätigkeiten beim Autofahren befasste. Bastian Pfleging studierte angewandte Informatik (Diplom) an der TU Dortmund und forschte im Anschluss daran an der Universität Duisburg-Essen sowie im BMW Technology Office in Palo Alto und Mountain View (Kalifornien, USA).

Er ist Organisator zahlreicher Workshops und Tutorials auf verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Konferenzen (z.B. CHI, MobileHCI, AutomotiveUI, Mensch und Computer). Bastian Pfleging ist zudem Mitglied in verschiedenen Organisationskommittees wissenschaftlicher Konferenzen. Für 2019 ist Herr Pfleging Associate Chair für die CHI '19. Im Jahr 2017 war er unter anderem Program Chair für die AutomotiveUI '17 und Associate Chair für Late-Breaking Work bei der CHI '17. Zuvor war er Work-in-Progress & Interactive Demo Co-Chair für die AutomotiveUI '16 und die AutomotiveUI '15, Associate Chair für Late-Breaking Work bei der CHI '16, sowie Leiter des Komitees für interaktive Demos bei der Mensch und Computer 2015. Er ist Mitglied in Programmkommittees wissenschaftlicher Konferenzen und Workshops sowie Gutachter für zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Konferenzen, Journale und Magazine.
